Two thousand feet,
six miles, every trip.

The drive between the valley and Moscow is not an ordinary 32 miles. US-95 climbs out of the Lewiston-Clarkston Valley from about 741 feet at the river — the lowest elevation in Idaho — to roughly 2,756 feet at the top of the Lewiston Hill, where US-95 meets US-195. That is a 2,000-foot change in about six miles. The old Spiral Highway next to it averages 4.68 percent across sixty-four curves and touches 7 percent. Your car feels that grade whether or not you notice it, and it shows up in two systems first.

What the Descent Does to Brakes
Coming down the hill is sustained braking, not intermittent braking — and sustained braking is a heat problem, not a friction problem. Brake fluid is hygroscopic: it pulls moisture through the flexible lines and the reservoir cap over years, and water lowers its boiling point badly. Fresh DOT 4 boils near 446°F; the same fluid carrying about 3 percent water can boil near 311°F. On a long descent that difference is a firm pedal at the bottom versus a pedal that sinks. It is exactly why brake fluid is a time-based service and not a mileage-based one, and why we measure it rather than assume.
What the Climb Does to Cooling
Going back up is the harder case: high engine load, low road speed, and therefore low airflow through the radiator — in a valley that regularly runs past 100°F in July and August. European cooling systems carry a lot of plastic and rubber: expansion tanks, thermostat housings, water pump impellers, quick-connect coolant fittings. Those parts do not usually fail from mileage. They fail from heat cycles, and the Lewiston Hill is a heat cycle in both directions every single trip. The same applies to transmission fluid temperature in ZF 8HP and DSG units, which is why we check adaptation and fluid condition on valley cars rather than treating the fluid as filled-for-life.

Lewiston, ID and Clarkston, WA:
one valley, one market.

Lewiston, ID and Clarkston, WA face each other across the Snake River at the confluence with the Clearwater — one valley, one economy, two states, and a climate that is not the Palouse climate. The valley sits nearly 1,800 feet below Moscow, and the weather is not the same weather. Cars that behave in Moscow reveal themselves down here, particularly anything cooling- or A/C-related. This is a market with a working economy behind it: the Port of Lewiston is the most inland seaport on the West Coast, there is a large paper mill in town, and a lot of the traffic in and out of the valley is commercial.

The A/C Test You Cannot Fake
A marginal air conditioning system passes in a Moscow summer and fails in a Lewiston one. If your compressor, condenser, or refrigerant charge is borderline, the valley finds it — and a system that is merely low on refrigerant is a system with a leak, not a system that needs topping off. We put dye and gauges on it, find where the charge is going, and fix that. Adding refrigerant to a leaking system is not a repair; it is a deferral with a receipt.
Highway Miles, Not City Miles
Valley cars accumulate a particular kind of wear: long steady highway running punctuated by a hard grade. That combination is easy on brake pads and hard on brake fluid, easy on transmissions and hard on cooling systems, easy on suspension bushings and hard on wheel bearings and tires. When we inspect a car from Lewiston or Clarkston we look at that profile first, because it is a genuinely different wear pattern from a Moscow commuter or a WSU student car.
Two States, One Market
We are used to the paperwork. Idaho and Washington registration, both states' emissions situations, insurance work that crosses the river — none of it is unusual to us. Clarkston customers are ten minutes further than Lewiston customers and get exactly the same service. If you are in Asotin or up the Snake, you are still closer to us than to any European specialist in Spokane.

A hundred miles,
or thirty-two.

The nearest franchised European dealers to the Lewiston-Clarkston Valley are in Spokane — roughly 100 miles north, most of it on US-195, and close to two hours each way in normal conditions. We are 32 miles and about 35 minutes. That gap matters most on the days it matters most: when the car has to stay overnight. A shop 100 miles away means arranging a ride 100 miles in each direction, or a rental, or a day off work. A shop 32 miles away means someone comes and gets you.

The Valley Has Almost No Import Option
The Lewiston-Clarkston Valley is well served for general repair and for domestic trucks. It is not well served for European vehicles. There is essentially one independent shop in the valley working on imports at all, and no franchised European dealer closer than Spokane. If you own a BMW, an Audi, a Mercedes-Benz, a Porsche, or a Volvo down here, your realistic choices are a generalist, a two-hour drive, or us.
Diagnosis Is Where the Distance Pays Off
Driving further for an oil change makes no sense. Driving further for a correct diagnosis makes a great deal of sense, because the cost of a wrong one is measured in parts you did not need. Our Level 1 Testing is a dedicated two-hour session at $285 flat — factory scan data across every module, live data under load, power and ground testing, and manufacturer test procedures — ending in a confirmed root cause. Of more than 400 diagnostic appointments last year, 397 reached a confirmed repair direction without additional diagnostic time.
One Trip, Not Three
We try hard to make the drive count. Tell us the symptom when you book and we will plan the visit around it — diagnosis, parts on hand where we can predict them, and the repair in the same window if the schedule allows. Every repair carries a 3-year/36,000-mile warranty, which is the part that actually protects a customer who lives 32 miles away.

Built on accuracy.
Backed by warranty.

These aren't marketing claims — they're the results of doing the same thing correctly, every time. Every repair we complete carries a 3-year/36,000-mile warranty, and every diagnosis starts from factory procedure rather than a guess.
