BMW Oil Leaks
Oil escaping onto a hot exhaust manifold is the most common oil leak complaint we get on BMWs — and the part most often replaced for it is frequently not the part that is leaking.
The Symptom
Almost nobody arrives saying "I need a valve cover gasket". People arrive describing one of these.
Why It Happens
Most modern BMW engines use a plastic valve cover with an integrated crankcase ventilation diaphragm rather than a separate serviceable PCV valve. That design is compact and light, and it has two predictable failure modes.
What We Do
The whole point is to replace the component that is actually leaking, not the one that usually leaks.
